Nov 27, 2014: 15th Annual Grateful Gobbler Walk

Image: 15th Annual Grateful Gobbler Walk

15th Annual Grateful Gobbler Walk will take place once again on Thanksgiving morning--Thursday, November 27. Walkers will gather at Coolidge Park for festivities before the 8:00 a.m. start. The event is especially exciting this year as 100% of the proceeds of the walk will benefit the new Shelter for Homeless Families located on site at the Community Kitchen on 11th Street in Chattanooga. The Shelter for Homeless Families will feature 13 units with 68 beds for families experiencing homelessness. The Shelter will provide a stable environment for families to remain together as they search for permanent housing solutions.

The cost to participate is $25 for walkers/runners 13 year and older and $10 for ages 12 and under. Start a new Thanksgiving tradition while helping a FAMILY in transition by registering today at www.gratefulgobblerwalk.org

Nov 22, 2014: PopTots: A Musical Masterpiece for Toddlers

Creative Discovery Museum and Chattanooga Symphony & Opera (CSO) team-up to present the sixth season of PopTots, a series that uses musical performance and instruction to help toddlers develop cognitive and fine motor skills. The program will be presented in the Museum’s Auditorium from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. on the following days: Saturday, May 17; Saturday, September 27; Saturday, November 22 and Saturday, December 13 (Holiday Blanket Concert).

There will be two 15-minute performances with a 30 minute, concert performance, concluding the day’s events. Guests can also build drums and will have a chance to play them with the musicians for one song during the final performance. During the breaks, musicians will talk with guests and offer the opportunity for guests to touch and play different instruments while learning how they work.

“Music is a strong learning tool in early childhood development. It’s great for kids to experience music by getting their hands on instruments and playing for themselves,” said Liza Blair, Arts Manager for Creative Discovery Museum. “Working with music and adjusting their innate sense of rhythm to the rhythm of the class helps children develop their cognitive and fine motor skills.”

Participation in PopTots is included with Museum admission. Pre-registration is not required. This program is part of Creative Discovery Museum’s ArtsLive! program, a year-round program connecting kids with visual and performing artists. Monthly performances and demonstrations by professional artists gives children the opportunity to experience art first hand, talk with the artist and try art for themselves. ArtsLive! is funded through Arts Build and Tennessee Arts Commission. Visit www.cdmfun.org for more information.

Oct 31, 2014: Moon Taxi @ Track 29 Halloween Bash

Image: Moon Taxi @ Track 29 Halloween Bash

Moon Taxi is one of those rare bands that unites musical ingenuity with thoughtful lyrics and still somehow manages to wildly entertain and thrill a crowd. Their new record, Cabaret, is a layered, multi-dimensional endeavor that displays the band’s maturing sense of their own musical identity. A follow-up to their live album, Live Ride, Cabaret illustrates the challenges of defining yourself in a world that seems to be suffering from its own identity loss. Lead singer Trevor Terndrup says, “It’s about juxtaposition—putting together seemingly opposite ideas and finding a strange harmony.” Inspired by surrealist artwork and novelist Tom Robbins, Terndrup says, “I guess we are trying to say that things are not so black and white, or good or evil, but relative to your own perspective.”

Show Type: Indie.

Anyone 18 & over, MUST provide a valid photo ID to enter the venue. No one under 18 will be allowed entry. No Exceptions. No Refunds or Exchanges.
